Yunus Centre inks MoU with CJCU to establish YSBC

 

Yunus Centre inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Chang Jung Christian University (CJCU) to establish Yunus Social Business Centre (YSBC) for the promotion of social business concept.

The MoU was signed at the 437th Social Business Design Lab on Monday at the Grameen Bank Auditorium in capital city.

Yung-Lung Lee, President of Chang Jung Christian University in Taiwan and Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organisations.  

Nearly 140 national and international participants from Afghanistan, Brazil, Austria, and Italy were present on the Business Design Lab chaired by Professor Yunus.

Six new Nobin Udyokta (New Entrepreneur) business plans were presented at the Design Lab.

All Nobin Udyokta businesses, presented at the Lab are the children of Grameen Bank borrowers’ families. 

The business plans included an agricultural lemon farming project, retail readymade clothing store, ICT venture, and agri-tool manufacturing, like paddy threshing machine.

Rabeya Begum, a mother of two, presented her business expansion plan for Village Multimedia. 

Being considered as an enterprising and entrepreneurial role model for young women in the area, Rabeya has established herself as an independent ICT entrepreneur. 

Rabeya wants to scale up her business and provide more technology related services besides the basic ones like printing, typing, scanning, internet browsing to the people of the area.  

One new entrepreneur, Tarek has taken agriculture as his profession. He knows modern techniques of farming of lemon and set up a mini Lemon Orchard where he cultivates different varieties of lemon. 

He wishes to scale up his orchard Tarek Lebu Bagan to new height with an equity investment from social business fund.

Nazmul Haque Chowdhury demonstrated his plan to expand his retail readymade clothing store Ona Fashion. 

Faysal Hossain, who is an expert in making different types of paper bags, wants investment into his M/S Rabbi Traders to become an entrepreneur. 

All business plans were presented and discussed in detail. Those were then presented in groups for further review. 

All the projects, amounting Tk over 1.0 billion, were approved for funding by their groups. 

The projects are joint ventures with social business funds and their progress will be monitored on www.socialbusinesspedia.com . 

Since the Labs began in January 2013, over 10,899 projects have been presented in the last 436 Lab programmes, of which 10,874 have been approved for equity funding investments ranging from TK 0.10 million to TK 0.50 million for Nobin Udyokta projects. 

Professor Yunus thanked the participants and invited them to join next Social Business Design Lab which will likely to take place on January 12, 2017, according to a press release.
