What is the problem the social business is solving?
One of the worst challenges that Kosovo faces is its negative trade balance. With 60% of the population living in rural areas and working in agriculture, the food sector plays a considerable contribution towards the yearly export value, reaching just over 11%. Nevertheless, the poverty rate is still nearing 30%, with over 60% of youth facing unemployment.
How does the social business solve this problem?
Enterprise Rizona is a processing and manufacturing company in the agricultural sector that is involved in the collecting, selecting, processing and conservation of different vegetables. The company provides access to market and incremental income to more than 100 farmers in the region of Rahovec, also hiring 30 more workers during peak season.
How does the social business generate revenue?
100% of the product is exported to EU countries, specifically Germany, Austria, Sweden and Holland. Rizona produces, selects, and collects vegetables from over 100 smallholder farmers, processing them so that they are ready for export.
