The Yunus Center of Urbino is inspired by the principles of that branch of economic sciences (which is becoming increasingly popular also as a result of the dramatic experience of the global financial crisis) defined as a "spiritual economics". This current of thought, in contrast with the theories of mainstream economists, who place human individualistic and selfish instincts at the center of economic activity, believes that the driving force of this action should instead be identified in sentiments of an altruistic and solidarity nature, to create individual and social economic well-being. This concept is well summarized by the phrase of prof. Yunus, according to whom "making money is happiness, but making other people happy is super happiness", based on his concept of "social business".
The activities of the YSBC of Urbino will take place within and in close connection with the project "Business and culture. Culture as an engine for economic and social development ", of the Department of Laws (DIGIUR) of the University of Urbino. This project aims to enhance the many possible positive interactions between cultural initiatives and economic and entrepreneurial activities, focusing on their moral and ethical aspects and on the central role of humas and their human values within the economic systems, in the aforementioned view of a "spiritual economy".
The Center therefore intends both to provide tools for a better understanding of the advantages deriving from such interactions, and to design concrete actions that allow the experimentation of the real potential and of the possible synergies that can thus come to be produced.
